Description
Hercules, son of Zeus and Alcmene, is mostly known for his twelve labors. He suffered the beginning a terrible death after his wife Deianira trying, with the black magic of a centaur's blood, to tie him to herself when she feared that he was straying. The sad fact was that it was a false presumption, Hercules had eyes for no one but her. She poured the centaur blood concoction over a toga, which she sent him, and when he tried to wear it, the blood seeped into his skin and burned him severely. Poor Hercules tried to remove the toga, but it had burned into his skin. In desperation Hercules tried to kill himself, but he was saved in the last moment by his divine siblings Athena and Hermes, who brought him to Olympos, where Zeus made him immortal. (Apotheosis = reaching godhood)
This depicts this event, and I can imagine that it raised quite the commotion at Olympos. Like pulling the Amazon guards from their posts to ogle the newly arrival. And later on, Hercules went on falling in love with Hebe, who was a daughter of Queen Hera, whom he didn't exactly have a good history with. Quite a good piece of gossip when that one got out!
