The Muse has left the building

The Muse has left the building
Yes, in Hollywood that can be said to be very true!! Save for Avatar and Brüno very little can be considered new and fresh in the dream factory lately. We've been living with Ninja Turtles, Transformers, Indiana Jones stew-ups and an army of cartoon superheroes invading the silver screen, while the brand new stories, the future classics remain untold. And it's not getting any better this year, on the contrary. About a week ago we saw the premiere of another Sherlock Holmes rendering, and what can we expect to see later on? Yes, Alice in Wonderland, a sequel to Wall Street, A-team the movie, a third Twilight, yet another Harry Potter and Narnia movie, Toy Story III, Shrek IV, Iron Man II and a remake of Casablanca taking place in Iraq. Rehashing old stuff in absurdum IMO! Can anyone say Boooooring, the Homer Simpson way?

The big Freeeeeeeze
In Stockholm we scored 21 below zero centigrade tonight. That's not cold, that's COLD! And we're not alone, this big freeze is spreading across the world hemisphere like a virus. And in the wake homeless people freeze to death, trains stops, heating systems overload and electricity is the new hardcore currency. So where's global warming when you need it? Or is this the result of that Copenhagen political hot-shot get-together? :D

From Osama to Obama - summing up the double 0's
It's not easy summing up a decade in a few lines, but here's my try now when we are nearing the end of the double zero (or 00) years. It's simply a word/name drop with a few comments attached:

  • Osama - the ogre behind the 9/11 tragedy of 2001
  • YK2 - the millennium bug which was to be the end of the computerized word. What an anti climax, nothing did happen. Or perhaps it's still lurking
  • A Tsunami in East Asia killed thousands from all over the world and drowned Thailand, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and a few other countries
  • Lords of the ring was turned into film at last
  • Mamma Mia was the super musical which swept the world like a wild fire and became a film in 2008.
  • The Da Vinci Code was the book to read during the decade. But I liked Angels and Demons better…
  • Global Warming became the scare of the decade. Together with Terrorists
  • The Eurovision Song Contest became really really big - almost like the Olympics. More glitter, glamour, bling-bling, smoke, laser and skin. But it is still failing to deliver enduring stars.
  • Idol, World Wrestling and similar stuff took over our TV sets. And the good old soap is dying. Or can we hope for a revival next decade?
  • Downloads and Torrents was said to kill the music. But it's more vital than ever it seems.
  • Dr Who made a comeback on the TV screens
  • Superhero Movies became bigger than ever
  • Steampunk became the new Sci-Fi
  • The EuropeanUnion just grows bigger and bigger. Perhaps the only empire ever in mankinds' history which have expanding without warfare.
  • Ban on smoking in restaurants and bar was spreading all over the world, and there are few countries these days which aren't in any way affected
  • GI became the metod to diet. And as with all diets it worked on some people (including me) and on others not.
  • This became the decade of The Cell Phone and the MP3 player
  • Obama became the first coloured leader of the US and everybody was expecting a blend between Superman and Jesus. And when he wasn't but an ordinary guy they got angered. Well suuurprice, jerks :sarcasticclap:

  • And we forgot about AIDS, Bruce Springsteen, Classic detectives, Scooters, Cop movies, Shakespeare, Agatha Christie, Donna Summer, Jules Verne, good old boardgames, Dire Straits, Confusius, Xena, Nostradamus, The Chinese occupation of Tibet, Sending snail mail and making long drinks

    Medusa is back
Yes, Medusa is returning - because you wanted her to. Or at least most of you :) You'll get to know what happens after she visited the famous doc and you'll encounter all kind of original and hopefully mesmerizing persons along the way. And in the end there'll be a little surprise as a special thank you to all my watchers, friends and random passers-by on this digital walk of life. So stay tuned!

    Secret Messages
I guess you've all suspected it. That there's a secret discussion going on around the world. A plan of a global coup d'état perhaps. Or a strange cult involving elves and aliens? Who knows? And they have strange and secret ways of communicating. But sometimes they do reweal themselves, mostly by accident. Using other's people's message centres as communication cells isn't that smart, even if they move around so fast that others might just catch bits and pieces of their conversations. Like this one for instance.

3 o' clock manifestation

3 o' clock manifestation
Today there is a worldwide PanChristian environmental manifestation, a lot of churches will sound their bells 350 times to symbolize a meassurement of oxygen level that needs to go down to try to stop the global warming. I don't know if it's possible to acquire, but the world leaders are meeting in Copenhagen, Denmark this weekend to try to negotiate environmental solutions. And to in some ways make big polluters like China and the US to accept their responsibility to come up with real, long-term and working solutions to save our planet. Because there's no backup planet! And we do nead to stop burning coal!!I live next door to the Hedvig Eleonora Church and I'm listening to it's bell while I'm writing this. Hope it's heard to China and elsewhere.

Secret Messages
I guess you've all suspected it. That there's a secret discussion going on around the world. A plan of a global coup d'état perhaps. Or a strange cult involving elves and aliens? Who knows? Using other's people's message centres as communication cells isn't that smart, even if they move around so fast that others might just catch bits and pieces of their conversations. NB - this is just a joke on the expense of conspiration theorists. Because I couldn't help laughing out loud upon seeing these messages in my box - it looked just like they were talking to each other instead of addressing Hera.

Conspiration theories
I guess you've all heard some of them - all those conspiratory theories which claim to tell the "real" reason behind several events. Like there weren't any Lunar Landing, Football World Championship in 1958 or Olympics in Moscow 1982. And who were really behind the destruction of World Trade Centre in 9/11 2001? Or the sinking of the cruise ship Estonia? Or the killing of John Kennedy, Olof Palme and John Lennon? And aren't really Elvis, Princess Diana and Michael Jackson still alive somewhere? And what is really Area 51 (besides a Swedish electro act?) Then how organized is really organized crime? And what is the Illuminati and why do we have to fight them? And what is the Bible code and what did Nostradamus really know? Just to mention a few things.

What feeds these ideas, these dreams? Why are they so die-hard and are constantly finding new supporters even if they are proven resting on clay ground or even dead wrong from time to time. Well, the Swedish professor Erik Åsard lists three reasons as nourishments for conspiratory theories: mistrust in authorities, the retreat of classic religion and ideologies and finally people's desire to mistrust coincidences and desiring to see a pattern in every random event. Åsard, who is publishing his stuff on Newsmill and fighting hundreds of slandering comments from people rather believing in twitter than scientific research, is taking the criticism lightly, or even as a positive feedback - nourishment for further research.

Åsard, who has written a book about the subject, points out that according to a research by Novus Opinion almost 18% of the Swedes aged between 18 and 30 believe that the American authorities were behind 9/11 and that his students are finding it harder to judge a valuable source of information for academic research. Something is happening, he claims, and it's not just about "old" and "new" medias. It's about the failure to value the impact of a fact. What is a twitter notice written down on a whim really compared to five years of full time and extensive research? And what will happen if the real authorities are starting to take these theories as matters of facts?

Finally, I'd love to add a fourth reason for conspiratory theories - good old money! There are so many people out there making money on these theories that you'd be surprised if you knew it. People who write books, articles, blogs, movies (can anyone say 2012) et cetera and who put food on the table by digging into these stories and feeding them to the major populations, either as pure entertainment or as replacement for fact, religions and ideologies. So while there are money to be made on conspiration theories there will be new ones around for every large even there is!

Pheasant + Tractor = TRUE
Well, at least at the Lindö golf course in Vallentuna outside Stockholm, where a strange relation has developed. A phaesant has become obsessed with a tractor! When the colf course personell takes out the tractor the phaesant comes sunning and then he runs alongside the tractor all the time. The greenkeeper Ulf Erhardsson is convinced that the phaesant has fallen in love with the tractor. And he's a picky old rooster, he just cares about this tractor, not the other ones. Consulted professors are convinced that the bird is wacked in his head. But hey, even a bird has the right to become a bit kinky now and then, right :)
