Was Odysseus from Denmark? And was Troya in Finland?

Italian Felice Vinci has presented his very own theory about the location of Homer’s epics Iliad and Odyssey. He has taken the whole shebang and moved it to the Baltic sea and Scandinavia!

Thus he has found Odysseus' home island to be not Ithaca outside Greece but the Danish island Lyø, whose topography and description Vinci claims fit remarkably well that of the island in Homer's epic. Vinci then proposes that Peloponnese of king Nestor this is the island Sjælland where the Danish capital Copenhagen is located. And Cobenhagen was Agamemon's Mycenae!

Then he goes to find Troy not in modern Turkey but in southwestern Finland. The tiny village Toija should be the legendary town.

In Sweden Vinci finds Thebes in the Stockholm suburb Täby, mostly reknown for being the hometown of the Swedish prime minister Fredrik Reinfeldt and the singer Nanne. And Athens was in the area of present day navy town Karlskrona in southern Sweden (thus Vinci explains  why Plato refers the area as being an undulating plain full of rivers, which the real Athens area is not).

And Crete, the vast land with a hundred cities and many rivers, which is never referred to as an island by Homer, is the Pomeranian region in today's Germany and Poland.

Achilles's homeland, lay on the fertile hills of southeastern Estonia. Vinci doesn't seem to have found Helen's Sparta yet though. May I suggest Oslo, capital of Norway! Norwegian ladies are after all said to be beautiful!

But how were the legends brought to Greece then? According to Vinci, there was a cooling of the European climate some 5000 years ago. This caused a migration from the Baltic Sea south to the Mediterranean. The people who migrated brought with them the names and memories of their homeland and used those names for their new locations, just as there are "old world names" in America today.

So for some reason those early Europeans remembered the war of Troy and Odysseus but not the migration :p

Felice Vinci has written two books presenting the theory. Out of these two, titled Omero nel Baltico has been translated into Russian and English and in Italy it is on its third edition.

Read and weep - or laugh, depending on mood!

And who is this Vinci guy anyway? Well, he's not exactly Leonardo, although he's Italian, he's a 44 y old nuclear engineer… I rest my case
