Apollo and the Muses

For 's Legends and Myths contest

This is one of the most well known motifs from the Greek mythology, so I felt it a challenge to do a sligtly updated and yet timeless version of Apollo - god of music - and his sisters the muses in their palace The Parnassos at Olympos.

Apollo was the son of Zeus and Leto and god of music, sun and reason as well as the protector of the Delphic oracle.

The nine Muses were the daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne and they all represented a different kind of art:
Erato - Lyric Poetry (redhead with guitar)
Eutherpe - Played the double pipe (I had no such so I gave her a trumpet instead )
Kalliope - Epic Poetry (She wrote the lyrics so now she's relaxing in front of Apollo
Kleio - History (Red dressed who is jumping high up in the air to the left)
Melpomene - Tragedy (Purple and black dressed dancer to the left)
Ourania - Astronomy (She's the one with the bongos, a bit sleepy since she was up all night looking for falling stars)
Polymnia - Hymns (The one to the right with the microphone)
Terpchicore - Choral dance (Dressed in orange and dancing behind Apollo)
Thaleia - Comedy (Dressed in green and dancing/jumping up to the right)
